The 2.60(b) updates contain security fixes and all users should be using the latest version. I can guarantee you won't see an official release of ETPro for 2.55.

If setting it to "Real Time" fixed it that means there's another process (Such as antivirus or similar) that is using enough CPU to cause ET to have problems.

Try deleting your config and loading it again. You might have an incorrect graphics setting causing it to fail.
