Now I`ve done it and finally it was so simple (if I just had have the relevant tips in time!).
I d id not need neither knowledge about video mode nor Joy2key. I just had to start ET with +set in_joystick "1" and my strategic commander works.

Hmmm, now X it is, ok. Well, starting my joystick remains a riddle. According to the Joy2key instructions I have to start the game first, then start the Joy2key and target the crosshair to the games X-window. I play ET in linux and try to make my joystick work. I have installed qjoypad which translates joystick buttons to keyboard inputs. It works perfectly for different linux games but there is no reaction in ET.
Has anyone got an idea how I could make my joystick work for ET under linux?
