Me system
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 1.7 GHz
512 MB 333Mhz DDR PC2700 DIMM
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600
Windows2000 Pro
19" monitor capable of 1600X1200 at 120 hertz

All drivers up to date

Windows settings are 800X600 16m(high color) 100 hertz
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4800 :?:

I just installed video card and works great except

The problem is when I load wolf my refresh rate drops to 60 hertz
Making every thing blury and giving me a head ache
I've tried every setting in video settings for windows and in wolf with no change.

Anyone know how I can change wolfs refresh rate setting?
and why win2k says my card is a 4800 :?:

which drivers do you have? the manufactures or nvidias? try both. un install the drivers you have now then install the latest drivers. Nvidias latest driver package is 41.09 (December 3rd). hmm and are you sure you monitor can run at 120 hz at 1600*1200? that seems a bit high. Anyway ya just screw with the drivers a bit, that seems to be the prob.

manufacture only uses nvidia drivers and ya I have 41.09
As for 120 at 1600x1200 thats whats the specs said but ive never gone that high I only like 800x600

I've tried every setting, 2-3 times, for drivers. I think its somethink in wolf's reg. settings but I am a dummy when it comes to windows reg.
Give me back DOS 6.22 :jump:

I was hope'n the AllMighty  would know how to fix this.

unless your monitor supports DDC and your driver supports it too, youll have to explicitly tell windows that your monitor can do 120hz.

display properties -> settings -> Advanced -> Monitor -> Monitor settings

Like Bani said, you have to implicitly tell Windows what you have. Don't worry about the 4800, it's their drivers that reports the 4600 as a 4800. I got my new replacement 4600 (since my 4400 died) and it does the same difference. It's a marketing scheme, they are re-marketing the 4600 as a 4800 and the 4400 as a 4800se.

Windows settings are 800X600 16m(high color) 100 hertz
I can get windows to go higher but 100 is all I want.
The problem is when I start Wolf it drops to 60 then back to 100 when i exit wolf.
In my display setting I have an option to over ride application refresh rates but that didn't work for wolf.
I have no clue if monitor supports DDC or what DDC is

I think wolf simply uses 60Hhz refresh rate. It may be possible to change it somewhere, such as a command or a registry setting, though I am unsure.

*Smacks around Gyro* Unless you want to not be able to play any new games, you might as well go to Linux.

At least it was rock-solid stable. You can't say that for any version of Windows! Besides, if there wasn't a Windows, new games would be designed for...

You guessed it - DOS 6.22!

Actually, I have XP and it hasn't crashed once. Oh, and let's try to not get too offtopic. And another thing, if there was no Windows, everything would be designed for Macs.

Thanks for the help all.
But I found a tweak utility tool thats working for now :D
I Found out that its a very common problem with Nvidia cards and W2K. :curse:
So anyone else with that problem try this fix. (at own risk :shakinghead:  )

Strange, I've had two nVidia cards, both on Win2K and no problems at all.

Glad it works for you though, happy killing :)
