ET 3.1.0 Server/Client Downloads

Post by pro »

Err...

Since 3.1.0 came out today I have configed my server file 10,000 times now (lies) to get the 3.1.0 client side to download from the server. I had no problesm with 3.01 downloading, but 3.1.0 is no way to d/l it except from etpro.anime.net/download.html - err it crashes everyTIME on server download, as well as FTP/HTTP download.

Err makes it so my clients playing on our server cannot d/l the new mod, nor play on our server defeating the purpose of even owning a server as well as running ETPro on our server.

Err ETMain, is bad, as well as Shrubet. So i'm stuck w/ a new nice mod that no clients can download it from.

I HAVE TRIED EVERY CONFIG POSSIBLE so please dont tell me its clientsearch, or wwwdownload 0 or sv_allowdownload 1 or maxrate or anything... I have all these commands and have used every possible combination including just using the server side.

If i recall right, then the download crashing thing can only be fixed with a 1.03 fix to the engine... Nothing etpro can do there.

It's an engine bug.. it happens more or less randomly, and there's nothing we can do about it. Sorry.

This is problem thats been around forever.
ET most always crashes after downloads from http.
It is less prone to crash using ftp, although that presents a huge security risk if you are dloading more than one file. The ftp site and password will be visible on the splash screen when the server disconnects with
the missing paks error.

ETTV supposedly fixes this problem.

no, it doesn't.

the download crash bug is clientside. ettv is serverside.

if id/activision ever give us the rest of the source code, we can fix the client side bugs too.

^ Thanks for the clarification, bani. I had thought that bug was one of those server fixes you mentioned in the ETTV section.

the way you say that it doesn't seem very likely to ever happen...
Our servers now run on 64 bit steroids. Point your ET to:
- Forgotten Ground StopWatch Server with occasional wolfrof 1
- Fraggle Rock ETPub Server - Mix up ET/UT & Duke Nukem
