Private slots visible on ASE?

Post by menth0l »

It seems that one some ETPro servers the private slots are visible in ASE.

IE: ASE will show 16/18 but the server still reports being full.

I'd like to know how to do this with my server. Anyone know?

You misunderstand me. Let's say there is a server with 16 "normal" slots and 2 "private" slots. Now let's say that the 16 normal slots are all full, as is one of the private slots.

In ASE this will sometimes show up as 17/16 and sometimes 17/18. I want to know why and how :)

someone mentioned something about the ETTV private slots before, cant remember exactly what it was, but might be worth a search (cant see it on glancing at ETTV forum).

this is why:
public slots = total slots - (private slots + ettv slots)

ase also uses a calculated value:
public slots = total slots - private slots

Yes it can because ETTV slots are reserved but not actually shown as private slots by server browsers. So if you set maxclients to 18, privateslots to 0 but ettv_maxslaves to 2 you achieve this effect.

So the number of public slots = sv_maxclients - private - ettv but server browsers only report sv_maxclients - private. ETTV slots are however reserved anyway.

It would be handy to have an extra option where you could allow ETTV slots to "eat up" privateslots. This would show the reservation correctly in Server Browsers.

@DG:
That was me, we recently organised a cup and I had to provide 12 ETPro war servers all capable of allowing ETTV connections and still allow room for the cup admins to log on. I had set 18 maxclients with privateclients set to 6 and ettv_maxslaves to 4 which gave 8 public slots & 10 reserved .

To avoid crossposting I suggest the discussion is continued here instead of the ETTV Beta 2 thread were I originally posted.
Our servers now run on 64 bit steroids. Point your ET to:
- Forgotten Ground StopWatch Server with occasional wolfrof 1
- Fraggle Rock ETPub Server - Mix up ET/UT & Duke Nukem

AFAIK ASE dosn't show private slots, which is nice since it means your not going to connect to a server that seemed to have room, but was actually full. Other programs/scripts do show private slots in () or with a +.
