Client crashes on download

Post by bani »

Q: Whenever a client connects to my server for the first time and downloads the pk3, when they finish connecting they usually crash.

A: This is a bug inside the ET download system which we can't fix from ETPro. This will require an updated fixed ET.EXE from ID/Activision.

A2: Players can disconnect as soon as they see the download finish (before it starts loading the level) and reconnect. This usually prevents their client from crashing.

Bani doesn't have the renderer code so he can't compile his own et.exe.

Or you can switch off wwwdownloads in your client.
I never experience any problems then.

True, but if it only concerns ETPro download and not maps, it can be acceptable.

That doesn't work, already tried it.

Has anybody tried downloads from FTP instead of HTTP?

Hi,

i use ftp and i also know some linux users, that don't have a problem to download.

BUT there seems to be a different problem:

If you download more the 2 files, there is a kind of download loop. Looks like ET downloads the first OK, then another one and then complains about md5checksum. Then ET starts over and over again.

Only works perfect with ONE file / download.

greets
Mark

Yes, I'm playing with Linux and I don't have any problem, but people with Windows always have that problem which gets me mad, I want to play new maps.
