RTCW conversion

Post by Sippenhaft »

I see some other maps from RTCW have been converted and was wondering how is that done?

I have a map from RTCW that I think would be a great conversion to ET.

Thanks for any info or links to where I may find the answers!

If you have the source it's easy. If you don't have the source, it's not so easy. If you don't have the author's permission, you get shunned. ;x

Well I have the PK3 of the map, that has the bsp file etc in it...

I have seen a few other original RTCW maps become converted, IE Village, assault, beach, sub...

How did they do that? Did they get permission from someone?

I would assume they have. If all you have is the BSP, that is not the source. While still technically feasible to convert it, it'd probably be better to find the author of the map and ask if you can get the source to convert it. Just make sure you know enough about mapping to make sure to perform all the steps for optimal performance when compiling.

You might want to talk to SD about getting permission to convert that one. ISTR someone did get permission for rocket, which was also an SD GOTY map for RTCW.

That map might already be under conversion..

I could be thinking of a different map, "krakow" is what the one I'm thinking of is called.

Code: Select all

Description:
This map is a conversion from one of the RTCW dam maps. Reach the forward flag, then infiltrate the dam. Several ways in to the power generator which must be blown deep inside the dam.

Yup, that's mp_dam (aka The Damned), but a lot uglier than the RtCW version.
