Linux Distro

Post by Radeon9.8kpunk »

I ordered all of my pc parts but in order to save a few bucks, i have decided to wait a couple months before getting windows xp. Which Linux Distro is somewhat noob friendly and will work with wolf et. I just downloaded the Ark Linux iso but i am unsure if it will run wolf on my machine when it finally arrives from new egg

redhat or mandrake, both are based on the redhat build and are about as noob friendly as they get...
however to save money you should order a computer part with your windows and get the OEM Windows XP it'll save a lot of money

So far ive purchase:
A cheap but nice case with a 430 watt ps
Biostar m7ncd mobo
geforce 4 fx 5200

I plan on getting:
512 mb ddr 400
Athlon xp 2000+
generic cd r/rw drive
western dig. 7200 rpm hdd with 8mg buffer
Am i forgetting anything?????? ( i already have mouse keyboard and monitor)

get an athlon 2600+, it's the best price/performance chip or was when i did the figures...
it's 90 instead of 57 but the performance increase you'll see for the price is well worth it (and since it uses the barton core it's easy to overclock

the fx 5200 (it's not a geforce 4 lol) had problems, the 5700 ultra is a good card that i'd recomend
don't know how tight your budget is but 5700 had lots of fixes, but the radeon 9600xt is a little bit better in that price range

thanks, right now im sticking with the fx 5200 becasue all im gonna do is play wolf, and my old mx 440 could handle that. As for the 2600+ i will take your advice into consideration because it will make my ram run at a higherr speed, it all depends how much money i can make. (im only 15 so making money is a big obstacle!!!!!)

the fx 5200 will run at about same (if not less) performance than your current card

archlinux bls :)

if you mean ark linux = arch linux, it should run fine. pacman is also a pretty fucking nice package manager.
