Concerning graphics translucence in ET

oke..we agree upon that almost everyone can get high FPS if youre inside and just starring at the wall. FPS affects numerous things in game..and if you have a semi-lowend computer..your frame will vary quite a bit... already theres an disadvantage because alot of client side things depend on your FPS, your mouse sensitivity amongst other things.arni wrote:i dont get the whining about fps _at_all_
i had stable 76 FPS on an athlonXP 1700+ powering a Geforce2TI and 512Mb DDR memory.
That was my configuration when i first played et and it always allowed stable 76 fps.
To be fair i guess u'd have to compare with worst case scenrio.. wich probably would be radar, 12+ players..
I'd be very surprised if ANY athlonXP 1700+ with ANY grxcard could pull steady 76FPS @ those conditions (and btw, poepel want 125 before theyre satisfied..not 76 ^^ )
I had three computers while playing ET ,
a p4-1600mhz Radeon9700pro..got around 15-30 fps
then a p4 2.533 mhz..radeon9700pro.. i got around 45-110.
Today i have a amd3200 and 6800GT and even sometimes on radar on a crowded server..i get pulled down to around 80 FPS.
so i guess that must have been some sweet athlonXP 1700+ computer u had there.
Today i dont really care..i can easily live with 80 FPS on radar , but i know that thers a lot of poepel with shitty computers that will do anything to tweak a few frames into ET.
i dont know what r_mode that is but i was running 1024*768
and yes, i would have 76 stable fps on the athlonXP 1700+ & geforce2 on radar with 12 players.
the only ocasion when it dropped would be a 28 player pub with radar, grass on and 6 fieldops spamming main.
et is very well playable on semi low end hardware if you make sure you dont have too much nonsense running in background.

no further comment on thatremember, there are some that have families and can't afford stuff like that
Not possible, i never hed constant fps on radar with fog+grass on 2400+ @2.2ghz (400fsb), 1gb ram and 9100 with 128mb. And i tryed every fps config/tweaks out there.arni wrote:i dont know what r_mode that is but i was running 1024*768

Today i only have fps drops on sw_gr_te (12players) when the thank reaches bridge and those rocks start to fall down, it drops to ~100fps (3700+@2.5ghz,2gb ram 7600gt 256mb ram aa x4 af x16 image high quality).
*shrug* I'm not suggesting you made it up, but I'm pretty sure you are either mis-remembering or exaggerating.arni wrote: there would be no real reason for me to make that up ether ...
all i did was set everything to "low quality / high performance" in my driver - to rivatoona haxx or smth
I played on a similar system, and distinctly remember that it wasn't able to hold 76 FPS anywhere close to all the time, despite a pretty minimal config.
If I remember right, 800x600x16 was pretty close to a solid 76 on radar, but other maps (like railgun, oasis, fueldump, goldrush) have spots that are very CPU intensive. No amount of tweaking will make a weak CPU hold a good frame rate on those maps.
