end of etpro ?

Post by Nail »

this was posted in our forums, would the etpro team like to comment ?

<@Whammo-> Don't hold your breath
<@Whammo-> The development of etpro could end soon
<todd`> :o
<Sifnt`> we're not, we're trying to get the msg to a dev that a lot of people would appreciate it for competition play

<@Whammo-> Soon we are going to be on to bigger and better things
<@[NW]reyalP> We ?
<@Whammo-> The dev team
<Sifnt`> why would it end..
<Sifnt`> are you in the dev team?.. or are you just making assumptions
<@Whammo-> yes I am
<@[NW]reyalP> O_o
<@Whammo-> I dont know if reyal is though
<@Whammo-> look in the credits
<@Whammo-> It would end because something better came along
<@Whammo-> Before etpro it was banimod
<@Whammo-> After etpro is...
<@Whammo-> We already have some definite ideas of ewhat to do next
<@Whammo-> It may last till etqw comes out
<@[NW]reyalP> Being in the credits isn't exactly the same as speaking for the "dev team".
<@[NW]reyalP> and abandoning etpro without passing it on to someone else who wanted to maintain it strikes me as a rather unpleasant thing to do
<@Whammo-> Well I have a history with this dev team that you don't even begin to understand
<@[NW]reyalP> o_O
<@Whammo-> bani didn't pass on banimod to anyone
<@Whammo-> I base my statements on in depth conversations me and bani have had

<@[NW]reyalP> O_o
<@Whammo-> what is your problem?
<@[NW]reyalP> my problem ?
<@[NW]reyalP> O_o
<@Whammo-> Do I need to explain?
<Sifnt`> jesus doesnt love me, thats my problem :<
<@[NW]reyalP> Jesus loves me, but he can't stand you!
<@Whammo-> If I am not explaining myself please tell me
<@Whammo-> O_o
* [sb]gg67_aw (~jayjayj67@adsl-62-167-45-225.adslplus.ch) Quit (Read error: 145 (Connection timed out))
<Sifnt`> actually its not that evident what the issue is..
<@Whammo-> reyal if you have a problem please spit it out
<@Whammo-> or refrain from rolling your eyes at me please
<@[NW]reyalP> o_O
<@Whammo-> Well at least I gave you ample opportunity to prove you weren't a fool...
<@Whammo-> O_o
<@[NW]reyalP> *shrug*
<@Whammo-> indeed
* @[NW]reyalP (SCDS_reyal@mooo.collectivecomputing.com) Quit ("http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4571989.stm")
<@Whammo-> heh
<@Whammo-> drama
<nexu> lol @ [nw]reyalp quit msg
<@Whammo-> I guess he thought he was gonna set me straight about him being on the dev team but me not...
<@Whammo-> weird
<@Whammo-> Not that I am particularly useful these recent days but...
<@Whammo-> So anyway ideas are being kicked around behind the scenes
<@Whammo-> In truth since etpro is so popular with the cometition it will probably continue in some form
<@Whammo-> But I can almost guarantee you at some point all/part of the dev team will break for another engine and fresh concept
<@Whammo-> Most of the devs dont even play anymore
<@Whammo-> That should tell you something shouldn't it?
<nexu> yes i already knew that some devs doesnt play anymore, or atleast not that actively as they used to be
<@Whammo-> bani put his heart and soul into this
<@Whammo-> As did a lot of people
<@Whammo-> He works hard to protect the integrity of the game

it makes sense that it would end at some point.

the log is no fake, i was there at the same time ;)
and i also guess that etpro will end some time ("Who wants to live forever?")
but this is just making panic out of nothing

IMO ETPro has reached a point where not much can be made better (There are still some things i want to see implemented though), and at a certain time it will reach the point when it will remain as it is at this certain point and few people will keep playing it, but then (Nooneknowsforsurewhenthisis) some other games will rise that will attrack the players away from W:ET/ETPro.

Instead of whining we should all say thank you bani (and the crew™) for keeping this game alive this long (without etpro it would have been dead a long time ago)

BTW, if you analyse this piece of text he really says nothing that I couldn't have said not even being on the dev team.

A) I'm not very useful to them either
B) I kick around ideas on xfire, clanbase, every forum I'm not yet banned from
C) A year or 2 from here you'll still find ETPro servers like you still find RTCW OSP servers today
D) At some point we all die
E) I once haven't played for 6 weeks straight because of a thing called Real Life
F) What it tells me is that he should blow it out of his ass instead of out of his keyboard ;).

So it's only FUD he's spreading and the one good thing that comes out of it is that we all are reminded to thank Bani & The Crew for their great work!

ETPro's great, but I think it's about time we had a new secure client for ET competition. Complete re-write anyone? w00

whammo's just stating a mix of the obvious and his personal view in a rather silly way.

Personally I view the ETPro dev team as Bani, Rain, Zinx and Fretn, with several other signficiant contributors, but then my impression isnt liable to be that much better than anyone elses.

nothing to see here, move along.

It makes sense that etpro wont last 4-ever, but i hope at least that some man willing to can continue improving etpro.

Etpro will get to a certain point where everything worth adding will be added, and there be nothing much else to do other then update the anticheat database.. It is true tho, how long could anyone of stood those stupid etmain bugs.. i think we all would of left a long time ago.
