It would make more sense to add more (optional) rtcwish features to etpro. We already have b_wolfrof and the ability to limit non-rtcw weapons/classes. The major things would be a wolfish sniper rifle and the venom. Options to use the RTCW panzerfaust damage, and the differences in charge time and suport fire would be easy enough.

Then we just need an ET 2.7 release that adds support for RTCW maps. And then 2.8 can add RTCW SP support! Then 2.9 adds AI for multiplayer, and 3.0 is all that sold as a bonus-disk with RTCW 2. Excuse me for a moment, I have an idea to sell...
Got any old idtech3 tutorials you made or saved? Send them my way.

Why not just make a feature to add the RTCW Mods to ET. Without converting them.

Wait, that might be an program that you might have to make.

(I'll keep dreaming...)

Please tell me you are quoting the ETPro development roadmap now ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)...

By the way: didn't players move faster in RTCW (can't recall exactly since I haven't played it in 2 years)?
Our servers now run on 64 bit steroids. Point your ET to:
- Forgotten Ground StopWatch Server with occasional wolfrof 1
- Fraggle Rock ETPub Server - Mix up ET/UT & Duke Nukem

I played it yesterday, and no, it's not dead.

Great rtcw maps like Murder Hill ;) is a major reason why getting the RtCW weapons in ET isn't enough.

Banimod + antilag and b_realhead from etpro would be better imho (though a lot of people would also want osp features).

OTOH, you would have to refix a while bunch of bugs in RTCW, and the code is just different enough that it often isn't a straight copy/paste.

Doing it in ET has a number of advantages:
- most of the OSP stuff is already there
- the ET engine is better (features like www downloads, and bug/exploit fixes)
- ET is free, so anyone who wants to can play
- ETTV > wolftv

Maps are something of an issue, but most of the stock RTCW ones have been ported, as have many popular customs. I suspect most makers of RTCW would give permission for someone to convert them to ET.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

That is very hard for a number of reasons. The engine APIs being different is the obvious one. If you were going to do that, the logical place to start would be the q3 engine (since the source is available), but it would be a lot of work and the result would probably be illegal.

That sounds like a challenge :)

He's talking about development.
Same as win98 (from Bill's POV).

Imho adding rtcw stuff and new gametypes should be left to other mods like etpub to keep ETPro "clean" for competition gaming.

The changes required to make etpro quite RTCW-ish wouldn't really bloat that much, and should have no significant impact on runtime performance. To me, the advantage of being able to use all the existing etpro features and bug fixes would far outweigh the inconvenience of starting a new codebase. One could fork the etpro codebase (or keep one codebase and use a shitload of #ifdefs), but IMO, the hassles would far outweigh the benefits.

Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion :moo:
