During a scrim last night some of our bright sparks thought that "coach" functionality would be a great addition to ETPRO. Basically, the ability for one person to be voted as a coach for allies or axis and have the ability to see the Fireteam(s) for that side + mines for that side, but still be locked into only viewing players from that team. So, slightly more than spec ability but a bit less than shoutcaster. Peeps would be automagically removed from being a coach if they joined a team.

Thoughts?

on a vaguely related matter, how about auto team & spec lock when teams have readied up?

we're allowing coaches / specs for the first time this season and no matter how often we tell teams to lock etc, there's always some who forget to (or simply don't know that they can in the case of very new teams), just as there's alwyas some who will take advantage of it.

b_beginround, b_endround binds automatically executed at beginning and end of round
I dont know if those could help, I guess their just client side commands.

It is certainly a feature that I'd like to see.

No offence Hiro but that sounds like a waste of time to me. The effort it takes Bani to implement that as an automatic feature far outweighs the effort required for someone to read the FAQ of the league and issue the command. Dersaidin is right, you could use it as part of b_beginRound. If they don't and someone exploits it against them, they'll have learned a valuable lesson they won't forget.

Another thought would be the server .config:

map default
{
command "ref speclock"
}

Re-enable ref if you still can't use it on GCs.

and if swap_teams then they can spec anyway ;)

use haxor Commander waypoint & arrows from banimod

we can o_O at the arrows when they point to mines \o/

Perhaps being able to vote on certain serverside CVARs would be quite useful - it could be implemented through the normal Vote menu we already have: add a CVARs button that displays a listbox with the votable CVARs as defined by a server CVAR somewhere, vote_allow_cvars "cvarlist". Would only work efficiently with true/false CVARs.

I wonder if something like:

startmatch
{
command "ref speclock"
}

Would work (I'm thinking that it'd speclock when startmatch happens, although that may only do it when that command is used)

regarding the original coach idea..

i think this would be great, and our clan would really use it :)

if its not too had, seeing it in 3.2 would be pretty handy!

could work but imo coaches should only eb allowed if both teams where using them.

Having a coach is like having a team, if you cant field (a compleat) one your at a disadvantage.

Well, it could be optionally added, I know our competition makes use of coaches so these improvements would be very appreciated :)

b_allowcoaches 0/1

And just let the team set coaches like they would specinvite..
