ETTV/PunkBuster pb_sv_plist bug/problems

Post by SiliconSlick »

I have a little script we use over at ND80's
[e.g. TheGrotto] to keep noobs and ban
avoiders off of our servers.

Basically, it kicks people that have a new etkey/GUID.

It is based upon the "VALID" age provided (usually)
by pb_sv_plist.

However, ETTV doesn't seem to be authenticating
users or something and that field is never being
provided.

In fact, sometimes even the player's GUID is not
being displayed.

Furthermore, where it typically indicates
"OK" for players in the game, it now indicates "SPEC".

It also does not indicate what operating system
they are using (W=Windows/L=Linux).

Here are two examples:

ETTV:

Code: Select all

^3PunkBuster Server: 1 (-) 24.250.133.237:64592 SPEC 5 0.0 0 ( ) gamling
ETPRO:

Code: Select all

PunkBuster Server: 1 952dd4b444000afade805c83b331a014(VALID:412) 24.250.133.237:62564 OK 5 2.9 0 (W) gamling
Although I could possibly live with the "SPEC" and the
lack of OS (I'd prefer not to), the lack of a GUID and
its age renders my script totally useless.

Is there a way this can be improved upon????

If not, is there a way that etpro/ettv could implement
this feature? PunkBuster pondered it at one point
(pb_minguidage), but never got it working. It would
be nice if we could use an approach like that instead
of my hack.

Note, I am aware that the VALID field only appears
when the user first connects and is reset to "(?)"
on a map change (which I suspect is related to
the problem PB had). However, as long as we
catch them coming on the server (before the
map changes), that isn't a problem... at least
for my script (which limits itself to players
with a VALID field). But without the VALID
field at all... no luck.

O.K.

I guess we won't be running it on our pub servers
(other than TheGrotto for testing).

er, wait a sec. i thought you were talking about the ettv client itself.

yes, it should be possible for ettv master servers (eg the grotto) to run pb.

Oh... OK...

This is a server side (only) script that simply
stuffs a pb_sv_plist into the console every two
minutes (via "screen") and then gets the output
from etconsole.log (after a short delay).

Anything you could do to improve the
pb_sv_plist output on the server console
would be appreciated.

[Edit: the script can be found here

The output here is completely out of our hands, so you'll have to poke at and be ignored by Evenbalance.

We are looking into this, though, to make sure that it's not ETTV's fault.

this looks like a problem with pb as i was unable to reproduce locally.

only thing I can think of is that pb_sv_specname is set improperly on the server.

it does not appear to be an ettv issue.

Would you please tell ND80 the proper setting then please?

He takes care of your test servers now. :)

Good to hear,

as my etadmin_mod is tracking the console output and uses this Line (the first one, that is displayed, after a player entered) to check the age of the user, i won't have a problem then.
