There will be a patch by id (taken from esreality):

Will they only patch the hole or make other improvements? Cause that might break all the mods then... Kinda like from 2.56 to 2.60.

EDIT: patch is out @ http://www.idsoftware.com/

It's only updated binaries (at least for windows).
Having tried to start etded and connect as client: works with etmain, but doesn't with etpro (integrity failure). I guess we should wait for an etpro update then.

Not that it matters here but it works with etpub ^^

If you are worried about malicious admins (the only ones who can use this exploit), all they have to do is use an unfixed version on their server and they can still 'sploit you.

Assuming that the id patch actually fixes the engine, that is a far better solution.

Note that servers/leagues/ladder configs that use md5 checks on et.exe will most likely kick you. You can probably work around this in the obvious way :moo:

I just ran some tests.

I patched an RtCW windows server to v1.41b that runs osp v0.9
- clients can join with either v1.41 or v1.41b no probs

I patched my ET windows server to v2.60b that runs etpro v3.2.5
- clients can join with v2.60
- clients CANNOT join with v2.60b

In general it seems safe to patch servers but not clients. Updated clients either:

- fail integrity by etpro
- get the boot from PB

Witnessed this in etmain, etpub, etpro & jaymod.
