Ask Bani :)

Post by Amish z8') »

Bani has graciously agreed to an interview. In these trying times, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to asking questions :) So, I'm giving you, the guys who visit these forums religiously, the chance to chime in and submit some questions!

If your questions meet the closely guarded, but highly quantitative, criteria, it may be asked of the large ear'd one!

Ask away!

Q: I know you modded RtCW and now ET, but how far back does your modding interest go? Did you ever make any DOOM WADs, for example?

Q1: Some people tend to think you take too long to release final versions and/or implement/fix features. Could you explain to us more or less how do you choose what will be added/fixed ?

Q2: Could you name the people involved and their role on the ETPro Development? It is common-sense that "bani makes ETPro" but that is not 100% true since the development team is not as small as it looks. Introduce them to us. :)

obvious Q that will get the obvious answer - when ETPro 3.1 and ETTV?

Q: thoughts on absence of ET at Qcon?

Q: biggest weakness to the future of ET?

Q: PB vs ETPro anticheat, or both? Do you still plan to develop fixed GUID's now PB is rolling out hardware-based GUIDs?

Q: bayonet - dead & buried?

Q: How is your name pronounced?
Q: What interested you into continuing with ET instead of another game?
Q: Is ET growing or shrinking IYOH?
Q: Will you ever be able to pick up nades?

Any interest in applying the ETPro mod type to other Q3 based games such as Call of Duty?

Any future games (such as Doom3/Quake 4) you might make a mod for?

how about questions:
  • that you dont already know the answer to :P
  • that havent been answered already in other interviews
  • where the answer can't already be found in these forums :P
  • where the answer isnt already patently obvious ('because its not finished yet'/'because its not high priority')
  • that actually matter (how to pronouce my name? et growing or shrinking? meh.)
  • that arent pure speculation on my part (doom3, quake4)
ive already answered some of these:
  • pronounce bani as "bunny" or "bah-nee", both are correct.
  • why et and not cod etc? because i do 100% development in linux, theres no linux cod, and im not going to mod a game i cant even play.
  • people involved: me, rain, zinx, ikkyo, fretn
  • when i started modding: i started with rtcw
  • why no (+dropweapon/ammocount/xyz)? because nobody asked for it yet, or other things are higher priority
  • will you ever be able to (xyz)? maybe, maybe not. depends on (priority/demand/etc)
DG's questions are good except the first one :moo:

Question: Is there any New Functionality you are looking to include in ETtv that will enhance the Experience over WolfTV?

Question:What is the one thing that is in ET you wish you could fix but can't? ie Take to much Time, Not enough time.

Question:Has any Companies come forward asking you to Work with them and if not is that what your driving too..

Or how about...

What the hell is anime.net and why is it always "comming soon"? I have wondered this since I signed up on these forums almost two years ago.

Will ETpro 3.1.0 come with an auto-updating anti-cheats.dat system?

Quote from http://bani.anime.net/banimod/forums/vi ... c&start=15 post made by bani:
we're working on an autoupdate system for future releases.

in the meantime manual updating of etpro_cheats.dat is what we have.

fwiw cheating-death uses static data and it's been reasonably successful.
So my questions are: will it be included in ETpro 3.1.0 (and if so), how do you plan on making it work, will it be better then PB's auto-update system (which has a lot of issues). But I guess you awnsered it already.

noobie that wasnt targeting your question, i just wanted to get the jump on it since it seems *cough* other forums *cough* have a bunch of feature requests in their 'interview questions' list.
