railgun water tower clipping bug

Post by Digga »

yep, the bug where you can clip your way into the water tower at railgun is pretty well known.
my question is: is is possible to do anything against it apart from some serverside modification? any way to stop sb doing it? any client modifications that work (I guess not)? any workarounds?
it it reeeaaaaly annoying and happens a lot on pups lately.
any further input is most appreciated.

ETpro mapscript for the win. The scripts are modified according to their descriptions. The railgun one corrects the clipping exploit.

thanks for your answer mortis.

I already saw the topic you mentioned.
but according to your post these mapscripts are serverside only.
is there any way for a normal user/client to do something against such bugs?
could etpro fix such things?

How could so anything you did on your client affect other people being able to use the exploit ? This makes no sense.

ETPro already includes modified mapscripts, so this fix could certainly be added.

I thought so but wanted to to be sure.

use the script, that's the fix, it's server side only

yes I know it server side only, it's been mentioned a few times now
the thing is that I run no et server but would like a general fix e.g. via etpro, which has to be installed at a server level plus client level. if this fix would be integrated in etpro it would make most lazy pub admins 'force' to have this fix, and thus the clients as well.
am I wrong there?

yes, you are wrong there, all the map fixes are done with map scripts... so the only way to fix it for every admin is to make it included in the etpromapscripts

aka the server admin still needs to have b_mapscriptdirectory enabled and in use, and the appropriate scripts therein. Bundling it with etpro would only was it more widely available, and 'officially adopted'. Etpromapscripts are not enabled by default.

it would be much easier if map makers didn't leave things to be fixed

Actually, etpro includes scripts with only bug fixes, and not the etpro specific changes (backdoor on battery etc) in the etpro/maps directory. These should be used by default if b_mapscriptdirectory is not set.

Ah, so I guess bundling would be useful.

I always assumed that directory was just the "backup" versions, or clean copies, so I never studied them that closely.

if someone wants to post a 'definitive' fix for railgun that everyone can agree on, it can be bundled.

If so, please do the same with 'supplydepot' (1 & 2) fixing scripts. I've met this map in lots of competitions and it's quite annoying to play it with "very well and very easy to solve bugs".

why not just use the supplydepot competition version?
better texturing, less bugs ...
