Request: defaults

Post by Dersaidin »

In 3.2.5, the default for b_realhead was changed to 1 (after this post).

For basicly the same reasons as put forward in that thread, I think some other cvars get their defaults changed:
- b_damagexp 1
- b_fixedphysics 1
- b_flushItems 1

Client side:
- b_hitsounds 1

Changing client side settings just helps save newer players from missing out on new features. Sure players could just get a config, but hitsounds 1 is a fairly basic, popular setting.

b_damagexp - Disagree. The goal should be to keep it the same as ETMain unless it's clearly an improvement. DamageXP is more of a preference and would lead to confusion.

b_fixedphysics - Agree. Nothing but good can come of giving everyone the same physics.

b_flushItems - Why? It's more visually pleasing but I see no particular need for it.

b_hitsounds - Agree. It's more likely that a new player would want them than not, so it's better to make the few who don't want them turn them off, than vice-versa. Also, the casual pubber will be familiar with ETPub's serverside hitsounds, so they may wonder why ETPro servers don't have them.

Spoken like a hardcore trickjumper. b_fixedphysics is awesome. It allows me to cap @ 100 fps and still make the basic jumps. Not everyone cares about trickjumping as a religion. Some of us just want to be able to get up onto a crate while capping at a non-traditional value.

So use the built-in cheat-disabler (b_sv_hitsounds) on your server!

With fixedphysics its nearly impossible to jump onto the fueldump axis bunker. While i can make it like 50 % of my tries without fixedphysics i can do it 0 to 1 times out of 100 tries.
And this is teh sux IMO!

Set fixedphysicsfps to 333 on the server if you really want everyone to be able to jump big.

Fixed physics makes jumping pretty equal for everyone, which is a good thing IMO.

Not an etpro cvar, but in_dgamouse should default to 2, currently I think it defaults to 1 which is the buggy value.
But probably setting a default value in etpro different form etmain default is not a good idea :?

what does that thing do then? in_dgamouse?
Our servers now run on 64 bit steroids. Point your ET to:
- Forgotten Ground StopWatch Server with occasional wolfrof 1
- Fraggle Rock ETPub Server - Mix up ET/UT & Duke Nukem

It's direct input for linux:
in_dgamouse 0 = no direct input + a bug that gives mouse acceleration
in_dgamouse 1 = direct input + a bug that gives mouse acceleration
in_dgamouse 2 = direct input + no bug (no mouse acceleration if m_accel = 0)

I never had accel in Linux...

Then again I've never had the "built-in accel" of Windows, either. I think everyone else is just unlucky or something.
