Windows 98 - Can't start server

Post by thelostsoul »

Server runs fine in Jaymod 2.0.4 and ETMain. Using 2.60b, I get the following "The Program has performed an illegal operation" message:

Note that this appears after I exec campaigncycle or server.

Anyone, any ideas? I tried in both 3.2.6 and 3.2.5, no luck.

I'm still a newb at setting up servers, so I have no idea what to do...

What CPU is the system running ?

In any case, 98 is 9 years old, no longer supported by MS, and was a terrible OS even when it was new... so I don't think we have any interest in supporting it. If you need an OS that runs on old hardware, use linux

edit:
etpro requires a 686 (P-II/Pentium Pro) or better CPU. This may exclude some later AMD and Cyrix chips. If you are trying to use an incompatible CPU, switching OS is not going to help. You should be able to find a PII level system for nearly free if you try hard enough.

Thanks for your response!

It's a pretty old system, it's an AMD 400mhz with 3DNOW!...that's all I know.

I did try running linux, but Ubuntu wouldn't boot, and Freespire's networking didn't work. I gave up with Linux there...

I suspect that CPU is not supported. It is nearly 10 years old.

heh...can't really say that doesn't sound like it makes sense, so I guess I'll just have to go with it...

If anyone has any solution though, since it seems to be only that one file that crashed (same thing happens with the latest beta of Jaymod), just let me know!
