Problem with server.

Post by {GTB} Granny »

Hi guys, thankyou for activating my account.

I have a few small problems running ET Pro.

I am running the mod ok but when I restart the server via the control panel I get the map oasis running continually.

This is my command line:
+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip "193.200.158.58" +set net_port "27960" +set sv_maxclients "12" +set fs_game etpro +set sv_punkbuster "1" +exec server.cfg +map oasis +set com_hunkMegs 32 +set com_zoneMegs 24

I can't seem to get rid of the +map oasis.

If I go through rcon and type /rcon exec server.cfg or /rcon exec objectivecycle.cfg the server runs the objective cycle that I want.

This brings me to my next question of where the server.cfg should actually go.

I have it in both the etmain and etpro folders at present.

With my noquarter server I have the server.cfg only in etmain and that works fine.

I was also hoping if someone could tell me if this server.cfg is ok

Hey Granny

With the "+map oasis" in your command line. Your telling your server to run Oasis. Remove that from your command line. The fs_game etpro tells your server to look there 1st, etmain 2nd. I believe. So etpro dir. best place for your server.cfg

Server.cfgs are a matter of personal taste. But I would run the rate at 25000, if allowed by your GSP.
I would also stream to both the PBbans hub and punksbusted.coms auto-MBI. Causes no lag.

Edit: set server_motd1 "^7No Quarter Server"
set server_motd2 "^130 Day XP Save"
set server_motd3 "^7XP Never Resets" ??? etpro server?

Maybe change server name to Oasis 24/7

"I can't seem to get rid of the +map oasis" Why? Strange, if nothing else. Can you make exec server.cfg your last command on the line? That will fix it too.

I would move these at the end of my etpro.cfg:

/ WATCHDOG

// in case the game dies with an ERR_DROP
// or any situation leading to server running with no map
//set com_watchdog 10 // defaults 60
set com_watchdog_cmd "exec objectivecycle.cfg" // defaults to quit
vstr com_watchdog_cmd

exec objectivecycle.cfg // Objective mode
First is the innovator, then comes the imitators. Lastly the idiots.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, usually server providers either give customers access to the startup line in some way, or they dont. I'm wondering if you have one of those web interfaces that does not allow direct access to the startup line but instead only allows you to change it with tick-boxes and/or buttons. If this is the case, maybe you could get in touch with your server provider with your desired startup line and ask if they could put it on for you. They are usually pretty accommodating.

I agree with EvilJohn too, putting exec server.cfg at the very end of the startup line makes things simpler (I'd also recommend calling your server.cfg something else too, but that's another story). You can put it in the etpro or etmain folder but make a choice and stick to it so you dont end up getting confused between 2 copies.

Also, I'm not sure what g_friendlyfire 45 does, but 1 or 0 is a more usual setting (toggle). Finally, I dont think g_mapconfigs exists (b_mapconfigdirectory does).

I can't seem to get rid of the +map oasis.

Has anyone got an example server.cfg I could insert ?

Well, they should change their panel for ET game, coz the start map yes it is but its included in the WATCHDOG, example:

Code: Select all

// WATCHDOG
set com_watchdog_cmd "map goldrush;exec rotation.cfg"
The watchdog is running when your server crashed or cant find the campaign, so tell your provider to fix this problem

p.s the starting map is also in your campaign, for example in rotation.cfg:

Code: Select all

set d1 "campaign cmpgn_standard ; set nextcampaign vstr d2"
set d2 "campaign cmpgn_popular ; set nextcampaign vstr d1"

set d_initial "set g_gametype 4 ; map oasis ; set nextcampaign vstr d2"

vstr d_initial
so map oasis is your start map in the first campaign

OK guys thankyou for your replies.

I have just finished work and have a bit more time for a better reply.

Sorry I don't know what that means.

I don't want to get rid of the map itself, I want to get rid of the command +map oasis from the command line. (As shown in picture below)

Image

/ WATCHDOG

// in case the game dies with an ERR_DROP
// or any situation leading to server running with no map
//set com_watchdog 10 // defaults 60
set com_watchdog_cmd "exec objectivecycle.cfg" // defaults to quit
vstr com_watchdog_cmd

exec objectivecycle.cfg // Objective mode
That didn't make any difference.

Also, I'm not sure what g_friendlyfire 45 does, but 1 or 0 is a more usual setting (toggle). Finally, I dont think g_mapconfigs exists (b_mapconfigdirectory does).
Well I am not 100% sure that I haven't got the server.cfg mixed up somehow between my etpro and noquarter server, hence the command line mix up.

It shouldn't make that much difference because I have got the objective cycle that I want running by typing exec objectivecycle.cfg so I know that it all works.

But it wont do it if I reset the server through the control panel.

I have to go into rcon and exec it that way.

This is the reason why I asked if anyone had a server.cfg that I could copy.
That would put my mind at rest about whether I have the right one.

Well many thanks for your help today and i hope that explains my problem a bit more.

Cheers

So, what I gathered from the posts is that even if you untick the "+map" option in your control panel, the "+map oasis" will remain in the command line?

If so, I guess the obvious first thing is to contact your provider and find out whether they're gonna fix that. If they don't, I'd try finding a workaround - filling +map field with something like oasis +exec server.cfg or putting in a nonexistent map and setting nextmap to "exec objective_cycle" or some other dirty trick.

If you can get that map part from your commandline or push the +exec part beyond it, you should be able to solve it that way.

This is the default command line:

+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip "193.200.158.58" +set net_port "27960" +set sv_maxclients "12" +exec server.cfg +map oasis +set com_hunkMegs 32 +set com_zoneMegs 24

+set g_gametype 4 is not included in that either.

As it happens I want to run an objective cycle rather than a campaign, unless we are having a scrim then I would like to change it to a stopwatch cycle.

If it helps you this is the ET Pub command line:

+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip 193.200.158.58 +set net_port 27960 +set sv_maxclients "42" +set fs_game etpub sv_punkbuster "1" +exec server.cfg +set com_hunkMegs 32 +set com_zoneMegs 24

I have no idea why maxclients say 42, it is a 12 slot server.

And this is the ET Pro command line:

+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip "193.200.158.58" +set net_port "27960" +set sv_maxclients "12" +set fs_game etpro +set sv_punkbuster "1" +exec server.cfg +map oasis +set com_hunkMegs 32 +set com_zoneMegs 24

Many Thanks
Cheers

If it helps anyone understand any better.

When I reset the server and oasis loads, if I go into menu and click vote nextmap it says:

'nextmap' is not set.

Thought I'd publish my ET Pro.cfg While I was here just in case that was causing the problem.

Anyway Granny, it was interesting you said that "nextmap" has not been set. If objectivecycle.cfg was loaded then nextmap should be set, and since you can rcon exec it then we know there is not a problem with that file. Double-check that your server.cfg file has not been clipped i.e. lines lost from the bottom (happened to me once during an ftp transfer and I didn't notice for ages).

I also noticed that in your etpro.cfg you posted above has a couple of "set"s missing before b_moverscale and b_riflegrenades. I dont think that would cause the problem you are having but best sort it anyway.

Long shot this one, but try putting:

Code: Select all

wait 150
At the very end of your server.cfg.

Just in case it helps, here is a link to the server.cfg I used to use. I've commented out the crazy stuff I used to do with camp cycling and so it should work if you replace gw7map.cfg with objectivecycle.cfg.
