linux support is included in the normal download. http://bani.anime.net/etpro/download.html

For freebsd, you would have to use linux compatibility, since there is no native freebsd build of the engine.

Well, a friend of mine wanted to create an FreeBSD port for ETPro. He was asking about the rights in this forum but got no answer....

If he wanted to do a native port, he would have to port the engine. The engine source is not public. A 'freebsd port for etpro' is nonsense, which is probably why he didn't get an answer. If he really wanted to do a FreeBSD port, he would have to get the engine code form activision/id.

Given that you can already run ET (and hence etpro) on FreeBSD, the whole concept seems rather pointless...

edit:
if he meant "port" in the sense of the *bsd package installation system, perhaps that makes sense...

I'm sure he did mean port in the sense of the package installation system, but the fact is that I'm not clear enough on where things stand, legally, to make any comment.

A reply to Maxlor with that statement would have been nice...

A lot of things in life would be nice.

I didn't reply immediately because I wanted to see if I could straighten out the details a bit and give a useful answer. I never managed to do this, and it was eventually forgotten (it doesn't help that I'm very absent-minded.)

I took this thread as a 'better late than never' opportunity.

ETPro works fine under FreeBSD... we run all of our servers (The NeXuS server) under FreeBSD, without any trouble...
