I finally got to play 3.1.13 tonight and that disappearing head bug was happening almost two full maps. My head model wasn't there then when I hit F11 to take a screenshot it would immediately come back. Within a few seconds it was gone again.
It looks like there is lower FPS with this new version under Linux (~5-10%).
Did some testing (WinXP) with this timedemo:
ETmain (2.56): 92.0 fps
ETpro (3.1.9/2.56): 89.6 fps
ETmain (2.60): 91.8 fps
ETpro (3.1.13/2.60): 80.0 fps
Almost 11% difference between 3.1.9 and 3.1.13.
Seemed to me like in 3.1.12 I had even less (not sure tho).

it aint exactly a life or death issue.. if anything it helps you having less shit on your screen.

You need more than the .exe. To be specific,
etded.exe (note there is now a standalone dedicated server .exe)
etmain/*.dll
etmain/mp_bin.pk3
etmain/pak2.pk3
fwiw, using the timedemo posted by wipeout, default (normal) etconfig.cfg, gfx card driver at defaults, and simply renaming the demo dm_82/83/84 as needed, i got these results:

eh, yes the patch does.
I thought you were suggesting ftping the exe after patching (which might make sense if you only had ftp access to the server, although in that case, they probably don't let you replace the exe either.)
