ET has Punkbuster. Quake1 and Quake2 did not. Anti-cheat was developed for those games, and now cheaters really aren't running rampant. Ouroboro is over-reacting. A lot.
Also, the engine has changed quite a bit the last 6 years, and SD do not have to release their source. When the Doom source came out, Hexen/Heretic engine source came out at a later date, if they did at all-- I can't remember at the moment.

i'm sure engine code played no role in this, right? (i trust posting that link won't be letting any cats out of any bags at this point)
anyway, whatever. if what bani and reyalp have told me is correct, and i believe it to be, hackers will only be able to use this on non-pb servers. and since i wouldn't touch those servers with a ten foot pole anyway, i'll try and relax a bit
