Feature Request: b_fixedmortar

Post by kekkyoku »

b_fixedmortar

Right now you can set up the mortar on different slopes and edges and reach near horizontal shooting angles with the huge splash damage of the mortar. This is detrimental to the gameplay of ET in my and others' opinions as its hard enough avoiding an explosion dropping from the sky at any random moment already, and now you even have to watch out for it coming from straight ahead through doorways and windows. This request is for a cvar that makes it so wherever the mortar is set up it acts as if it was set up on a flat surface. TWL has said they have interest in testing this cvar for thier league if its implemented in ETPro so please consider adding this into the next release.

this is one of my favorite features of the mortar. you can actually reach negative elevations on fueldump 8)

you can also do silly stuff like negative angles on supply... and mortar straight into the forward bunker through the window. Hence the request for the feature :D

Horizontal mortar = win... for those who research the maps properly and find the good firing positions.

There would be an obvious downside to this suggestion though. Just like there are spots to set up to shoot horizontal....there are spots you can't setup to shoot at the normal angles. If you got flat ground mortar angles anywhere, you could setup on uphill slopes...even extreme slops with no difficulties (and be able to operate as normal as opposed to being restricted to >70 degrees elevation).

I think that good skill with the mortar should be rewarded, not penalized IMO. It is not overly exploited in this fashion, AFAIK.

And speaking of mortars: http://bani.anime.net/banimod/forums/vi ... 24&start=0

yeh definitely... although if you get the right angle as an allied mortar on FD, you can fire through the left-hand bunker window and down the stairs next to the axis FD spawn heh... not much fun for the Axis spawning  :P

Would it be better to cap the minimum effective angle (relative to flat ground) at something like 45 degrees instead? That way you'd nerf the horizontal shots without affecting the setup.

roflcopter. this from the guy who says thou shalt not step foot into the upper bunker on HOP, but allows mortaring into those windows coz, well, gosh darnit he's good at it and it's fun as long as it's him doing it

on that note, to all pub admins the world over: spawn ends wherever the UN-TAMPERED-WITH spawn shield ends when at a full, unobstructed sprint. (pssst, that means the upstairs room on FD isn't the spawn anymore. whoops!)

anyway back on topic, who cares really, other than players who's bread and butter was mortar 'sploitz. the intention of the mortar as a weapon is clear: shoot explosive round into sky from a relative safe location so that it falls to earth at another location. not "deploy on an angle and shoot it like a panzer-cum-riflenade". although i did enjoy it on sp_delivery until they gimped it via a map change :(

the map that you guys keep bring up as the mortar/panzer with a larger splash area... is beach.
It is still possible to mortar the bunker relatively easily by going to the first flat rock in water near the standard allie spawn....

anyways

Hmm... someone is mortaring our spawn = leave spawn...
and what about the fldops airstrikes that are lanched onto the allie spawn...
I see the spawn mortar as a defense agaisnt spawn airstrikes :)
 just playing devil's advocate...

while still on the mortar topic:

is there a chance to be implemented: allow all players with 4th level
battle sense to see (same team) mortar hits on their command maps?

posted before, hope will get second chance :)

I have to agree with kek.

From a competition standpoint, the explointation to use a line drive mortar shot to act like a rapid firing panzer is more of an exploit with the low spam settings.

I'd like to see it implemented for leagues to decide on using.
