ETpro for Macintosh ET 2.60

Post by Boramor »

Hi,

I am a mac user who just rolled into the whole ET thing,
and I was wondering if there is any development on a mac
version of ETpro. At the moment, the guys at TC:Elite are
working on a mac version of their mod, and I would really
like to see this for ETpro too.

Yours sincerely,

remember no work needs to be done for a client... only for servers, clients can connect to any version without issue... as soon as there's a linux 2.60 client anyone can play on etpro (as massively more servers are run in linux then windows)

Oh ok, that's something I was not aware of.
So I can play on any ETpro server, no matter what?

TC:Elite doesn't function for me anyways, the said on the site that it won't work for mac till the issue a mac update.

the only thing a client needs from the server is the pk3, and that is universal

But the pk3 contains also client-side binarys, and these need to be build for the mac first.

No, cgame.mp.* and ui.mp.* are client side (too).

as uber_noob said, cgame and ui are native executables (bundles, in the case of mac, dll and so for win and linux).

While etpro certainly could be built for the mac, it does require some effort. The game code is pretty much platform independent, but you still have to build and test. Platform specific bugs are possible (For example, in 2.6 etmain, there was some fairly nasty stuff caused by the differences in floating point handling). This is also made more difficult by the fact that mac isn't especially friendly to remote development. AFAIK, no one on the etpro team has a local access to a mac capable of running ET.
