Request: Custom background color

Could the ETPro team please implement a custom background feature?

With r_fastsky on, the background is dark gray; it's depressing and ugly. I wish we could choose the color ourselves. Like b_bgcolor 0xccffff, or something like that.

Think about it.

Thanks for reading.

i'm pretty sure i've seen this request before... and it was not implemented because you use a texture from the map

Texture from the map?? I thought it was the global ambient light color...

Yes. Some of us want as many frames as we can get.

for me its rather a thing of better contrast with fastsky on most maps

EDIT: most modern grfx cards are bored to death by et anyways, shouldnt make any difference

If you meant to say that ET is not a new game, then yes, you are right.

no, i think he means that ET is not highly GPU powered, it's more CPU based, so almost all current video cards (relatively) are fairly easily able to run ET.

That's true. The Quake 3 engine works that way, I have heard.

I think it's one of many tweaks which together acculumate to a noticable framerate-increase.

Well, i was making my cfg to run et smooth becuase of my old pc: gf2 32mb, 1 ghz duron, 256 mb ram, and with fastsky off i was managed to do that with 43 capped fps. So i could play on the uk server with smooth and not much ugly graphic. Now i got new pc and all what i can say after testing some settings it is all about the contrast and to see your cross or skins better and grey sky doesnt help so much to increase fps... There are more important things on the etpro's to-do list.

fastsky is an engine feature (renderer, as indicated by the r_ prefix) which makes modifying how it works is likely to be non-trivial. So the question of why people want this is pretty much moot.

It's easy to do it in a GL wrapper (just override glClearColor), but then you won't be able to play on PB servers. :)

Out of the question then. :?
